Ep 24. Flower Power

Doug and Carrie are getting ready to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. While trying to come up with the perfect present for each other, they remember that the traditional gift for 10 years is tin or aluminum. Carrie decides to surprise Doug with tickets to St. Louis to watch the Mets play against the Cardinals, but realizes that some of their close friends wouldn't be able to make it. She decides to throw a surprise party instead.

As the party planning goes underway, Doug invites one of his friends, Steve, over to help him work on his car, but gets more than he bargained for when Steve brings along his new girlfriend, Patty (played by Jennifer Coolidge). After a few minutes of conversation, Doug realizes that he went to high school with Patty and can't remember her. Trying to make up for his mistake, he offers her a tour of the house and upon seeing the backyard, Patty compliments Carrie's garden.

Desperate to do something for their anniversary, Doug decides to use Patty's compliment as an opportunity to surprise Carrie by planting her favorite kind of flower, daisies, in their backyard. However, he quickly realizes that he has no idea how to plant flowers and asks Deacon for help. Meanwhile, Carrie, worried about the party and Doug's behavior with Patty, confides in Kelly and Holly. They all agree that Doug is being too nice to Patty and all have different theories about why.

As the party approaches, tension between Doug and Carrie reaches a boiling point. Carrie accuses Doug of wanting to cheat on her with Patty and Doug accuses Carrie of overreacting. In the end, Doug redeems himself by successfully planting the flowers and makes it up to Carrie by giving her the tickets to St. Louis.

The episode ends with the surprise party going off without a hitch as all of their friends come to celebrate. Doug and Carrie renew their vows in front of their friends and family and have a touching moment between them. Carrie tells Doug that he is her soulmate and Doug responds by saying that he knows he is lucky to be with her. The season ends with a feeling of warmth and love between the couple as they continue their lives together with the ones they love surrounding them.
