Doug and Carrie are thrilled when they receive a brand new bedspread as a gift from Doug's parents. However, their excitement quickly turns to disappointment when they realize that the bedspread is too big for their bed.
Doug and Carrie decide to keep the bedspread anyway and use it as a decorative throw on their couch, much to the confusion of their friends and family. They also decide to use the opportunity to redecorate their living room, leading to a hilarious series of mishaps and arguments as they attempt to choose new furniture and decor.
Meanwhile, Arthur becomes obsessed with a local bakery and spends all his time and money there, much to the annoyance of his friends and family. When he discovers that the bakery is going out of business, he decides to buy it and run it himself, leading to even more chaos and hilarity.
As the episode progresses, Doug and Carrie's decorating decisions become increasingly ridiculous, with Doug insisting on an oversized chair that barely fits in the living room and Carrie insisting on a garish neon sign. Despite their differences, however, they eventually come to a compromise and create a living room that they both love.
In the end, Doug and Carrie's friends and family are amazed by the transformation of the living room, and even Arthur finds himself enjoying the new decor. The episode ends with Doug and Carrie cuddled up on their couch, under their oversized bedspread, content in their newly-decorated home.
