Ep 5. Crickets

In The Last Man On Earth season 2 episode 5 titled "Crickets", we see the world in a state of chaos after a virus has wiped out almost the entire population. Our main character, Phil Miller, played by Will Forte, is still searching for other survivors. After several failed attempts, Phil has lost all hope and has started to feel lonely and somewhat depressed.

In this episode, Phil decides to find himself a friend by befriending the local crickets that he hears chirping at night. He sets up a make-shift enclosure to catch some crickets, and he spends days trying to tame them. Despite his efforts, the crickets refuse to befriend him, and Phil becomes increasingly frustrated with the situation.

Meanwhile, Carol, Phil's former companion, has started to bond with Melissa, a new arrival. They have both started to realize that Phil might not be the best person to be around, and they start to talk about leaving him behind. Melissa suggests that they run away together, but Carol is hesitant since she still feels responsible for Phil.

Back at the makeshift cricket enclosure, Phil becomes desperate and decides to take matters into his own hands. He steals a megaphone from another survivor's house, and he starts to use it to amplify his voice. He then proceeds to shout at the crickets to talk to him, but they still refuse to budge. This only makes Phil more frustrated, and he starts to lose his cool.

The tension between Phil and the crickets reaches a boiling point, and he decides to take drastic measures. He tries to lure the crickets out of their enclosure by playing loud music, but it only attracts a swarm of bees, which sting him. Phil then starts to feel guilty and regrets his actions.

Meanwhile, Jason, another survivor, has arrived in Tucson. He has been looking for his girlfriend for months since the outbreak, but he hasn't had any luck finding her. He comes across Phil's old billboard, where he has written "Alive in Tucson" and decides to investigate.

Jason eventually arrives at Phil's house, and Phil is happy to have found another survivor. However, Phil's mood is quickly dampened when Jason mentions how terrible Phil's behavior has been while he has been on his own. Phil tries to make excuses, but he eventually realizes that he needs to change his ways if he wants to keep any companionship.

In the end, the episode leaves us with a sense of hope as we see Phil making an effort to change his behavior. While he still has a long way to go, he has finally realized that his actions have consequences and that he needs to work on improving himself if he wants to form lasting friendships.
