Christine has always been a worrier, but this latest concern takes the cake: Ritchie's fifth-grade class is headed to a three-day overnight trip to a nature preserve, and Christine is convinced that Ritchie is too young and too delicate for it. When repeatedly asking the other parents at school for their opinions does not yield any helpful information, Christine decides to take matters into her own hands and sign herself up as a chaperone for the trip.
Meanwhile, Richard, who has been struggling with insomnia, tries every method under the sun to get some rest, including sleeping pills, white noise machines, and hypnosis tapes. But nothing seems to work, and he finds himself wandering the streets of Mar Vista in the middle of the night, trying to find something to occupy his mind.
Back at home, Matthew starts to worry that his relationship with Barb is falling apart when it becomes clear that she has been spending a lot of time with her ex-boyfriend. He confides in Christine, who gives him some surprisingly helpful advice that he decides to act on.
As the trip approaches, Christine's anxiety ramps up to new heights, and she starts to question her decision to join the group. But when she arrives at the nature preserve, she finds that her fellow chaperones are just as neurotic as she is, and that the kids are having a great time despite the bugs, the heat, and the lack of cell phone service.
Will Christine be able to let go of her worries and enjoy the experience, or will she spend the entire trip fretting about things that are beyond her control? And will Richard ever be able to get a good night's sleep again, or is he doomed to wander the dark streets of Mar Vista for eternity? Find out in this hilarious episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine.
