Erin, who suffers from epilepsy, tries to live a normal life by hanging out with her rich friend Eliza, played by Perdita Weeks. Eliza is the sister of Paul Meyer, played by Itay Tiran, a young man who tries to convince Erin that the young soldier is not alive. She refuses to believe him. As Erin reads the last pages of the diary, she finds an envelope with a key inside. Reading about the key, she decides to return it to the person it originally belonged to, which is something that her grandfather mentioned in the diary that he wished he could do. This leads her to follow in the path of Len as he went to war in Palestine. She enlists the help of her friend Eliza. The series shows Len's life as a young soldier as he goes off to war, a war that he comes to disagree with. Len goes to war against a group of people, but eventually he protects them. The key is given to Len by a dying man, asking him to return the key to the dying man's father, something which he is not able to do. Instead, he is sent home locked on a naval ship. Erin learns more about life as she makes her journey to Gaza and back home. When she gets home, she visits her grandfather in the hospital to tell him that she returned the key.
