The Strange Calls is a quirky and supernatural comedy about an affable but hapless night-shift police officer named Toby Banks who is stationed in a remote seaside town in Australia. In this show, strange and otherworldly incidents often occur, and it is up to Toby and his eccentric and equally clueless partner, Gregor, to investigate and solve these mysteries.

Episode 6 of the first season is called "Roots," and it begins with a woman named Heather arriving in town to attend her father's funeral. Heather is equally concerned about going to the funeral and being an outcast in her hometown as she is about the fact that her father was buried with a strange object that he had kept hidden for years.

Meanwhile, Toby and Gregor are called to investigate a sudden outbreak of vandalism in the town cemetery. A group of teenagers has been digging up graves and damaging headstones, causing havoc and alarm among the locals. As they start their investigation, they come across Heather, who believes that the grave of her father has also been vandalized.

Toby and Gregor decide to help Heather and investigate her father's grave, but instead, they find themselves pulled into a dangerous and strange occult ritual. They discover that there is much more to the town than meets the eye, and that the seemingly peaceful and serene community is hiding a dark and terrifying secret.

As they try to unravel the mystery of the grave and its strange object, they are confronted by a sinister and ominous force that threatens to destroy them and the entire town. Through a combination of wit, bravery, and some unlikely allies, Toby and Gregor must confront this evil and save themselves and the town from destruction.

"Roots" is a suspenseful, eerie, and entertaining episode that masterfully blends supernatural horror, comedy, and drama. The plot unfolds at a breakneck pace, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats, while the performances of the excellent cast bring both humor and heart to this intriguing and satisfying story. Overall, the episode is an excellent example of The Strange Calls' unique and irreverent approach to supernatural mystery and comedy.
