In The Venture Bros. season 1 episode 1, titled "The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay," we are introduced to the world of Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, a super scientist who has taken over the family business after the death of his father, Jonas Venture. Along with his two sons, Hank and Dean, and his bodyguard, Brock Samson, Rusty lives in a sprawling compound on the outskirts of a bizarre and dangerous city.

The episode begins with a flashback to Rusty's childhood, where we learn that he and his friend, Pete White, accidentally caused a nuclear accident at Turtle Bay, Long Island. We then cut to the present, where Rusty is overseeing a group of scientists who are working on a top-secret project involving cloning. Meanwhile, Hank and Dean are exploring the compound, playing with their pet snake and discovering some of their father's more unusual inventions, like a machine that turns water into gasoline.

As the episode progresses, we see that Rusty is not quite the brilliant scientist that his father was. He is lazy, selfish, and more interested in partying than in scientific discovery. His incompetence is highlighted when he is brought before the head of OSI (Office of Secret Intelligence), who assigns him a mission to retrieve a stolen ray gun that could potentially destroy the world. Rusty shows no enthusiasm for the mission, and instead tries to pawn it off on Samson.

Despite Rusty's ineptitude, the mission quickly becomes dangerous when the OSI's arch-nemesis, the villainous Monarch, shows up to take possession of the ray gun. Samson and Rusty manage to fight off the Monarch and his henchmen, but only by accident - Samson reveals that he has no real fighting skills, and Rusty nearly kills himself by accidentally activating the ray gun.

The episode ends with Rusty and his sons hiding from the Monarch in a closet, where they discover a hidden room filled with Jonas Venture's research and inventions. It becomes clear that Rusty has been neglecting his father's legacy, and that there may be more to his family's business than he ever knew.

Overall, "The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay" is a great introduction to the world of The Venture Bros. It is funny, irreverent, and packed with plenty of references to the world of superheroes and science fiction. The characters are all well-drawn, and the animation is top-notch. While the episode serves primarily to set up the characters and the world they inhabit, it also manages to tell a fun and engaging story that leaves the viewer eager for more. If you're a fan of adult-oriented cartoons like South Park and Rick and Morty, you won't want to miss The Venture Bros.
