Ep 2. The Island

In the second episode of TIME: The Kalief Browder Story, titled "The Island," we see how Kalief's experiences on Rikers Island affected him in both the short and long term. The episode begins with Kalief's arrival at Rikers, where he is placed in the infamous solitary confinement unit known as "the bing."

Through interviews with Kalief's friends and family, as well as legal experts and activists, "The Island" paints a vivid picture of the systemic issues at play in the criminal justice system, highlighting how Kalief's story is just one of many examples of the ways in which people of color and those from low-income backgrounds are disproportionately affected by mass incarceration.
