Tracey Takes On is a popular TV show that follows actress and comedian Tracey Ullman as she takes on different roles in each episode. In season 3 episode 3, titled "Smoking," Tracey explores the dangerous world of smoking.

The episode begins with Tracey taking on the role of a chain-smoking, middle-aged woman named Ruby Romaine. She smokes throughout the episode, showcasing how smoking has become an integral part of her daily routine and how difficult it is to quit. Ruby is convinced that smoking has no negative effects on her body and that the anti-smoking campaigns are all a scam.

Next, Tracey becomes a concerned mother named Karen, whose teenage daughter is starting to smoke. Karen tries different tactics to make her daughter quit smoking, including bribing her with money and offering to take her shopping if she quits. However, her daughter is more interested in socializing with her friends, who all smoke. Karen realizes how difficult it is for teenagers to quit smoking, especially when it is seen as a cool trend among their peers.

Tracey then takes on the role of a German tourist named Frau Fassbinder. She is visiting America for the first time and is shocked to see how many people smoke. Frau Fassbinder is particularly disgusted with the smoking sections in restaurants and how non-smokers are still exposed to second-hand smoke. She tries to convince a waiter to make the restaurant smoke-free, but to no avail.

In another segment, Tracey transforms into a Hollywood actress named Tina Marjorino. Tina is trying to quit smoking to prepare for her new role in a non-smoking campaign. She goes to a hypnotherapist to help her quit smoking, but the hypnosis does not work. Tina later realizes that she needs to be motivated to quit for herself, rather than for the role or for others.

Lastly, Tracey becomes a lawyer named Lorraine. She is hired by a group of smokers who are suing tobacco companies for their addiction to cigarettes. Lorraine thinks the case is an easy win, but she soon discovers that the tobacco companies have powerful lobbyists and lawyers working for them. In the end, she decides to settle the case out of court but realizes that this will not stop people from smoking or tobacco companies from making profits.

Overall, the episode "Smoking" sheds light on the detrimental effects of smoking and the difficulties of quitting. It explores the different perspectives of smokers, non-smokers, and those trying to quit. The episode also highlights the power of tobacco companies and their impact on public health.
