Charlie tries to get Jake ready for his first day at school, but Jake is more interested in playing his Gameboy. Alan complains that Charlie never helped him get ready for school when he was a kid, and the two brothers bicker about their childhood.

Meanwhile, Judith is upset that Alan has not been living up to his parenting responsibilities, and he realizes that he needs to step up his game if he wants to remain in Jake's life. He decides to take Jake out for a day of fun, but things don't go quite as planned.

In the midst of all of this, Charlie is dealing with his own personal issues. He decides to quit smoking, but finds it difficult to resist temptation. He then begins to experience visions of his father, who passed away years ago, and must come to terms with his emotions surrounding his father's death.

As the day progresses, the three men all face their own challenges and learn important life lessons. They come to realize that the key to a happy family is love, respect, and a willingness to work together.

In the end, Alan and Charlie come together to deal with a crisis involving Jake, proving that even though they may fight and bicker, they are still brothers who love each other. The episode ends with the trio sitting down for a family meal, discussing their adventures and reflecting on their journey together.
