Unspouse My House is a home renovation show that helps divorcées move on from their past by transforming their shared marital home into a fresh new space. In season 1 episode 1, entitled "Design in the Dumps," host Orlando Soria helps a newly divorced woman named Alison turn her dated and cluttered house into a stylish and happy home.

Alison's house is filled with old furniture, outdated decor, and sentimental clutter from her past relationship. She admits that she feels stuck in her old life and struggles to let go of the memories associated with her ex-husband. Orlando's mission is to help Alison let go of her past and move forward with a brand new design that reflects her personality and style.

To kick off the renovation, Orlando meets with Alison to discuss her design preferences and get a sense of her personality. He goes through her home with her, taking note of what needs to be changed, and begins to formulate a plan. As Alison reveals her story, Orlando listens attentively, building trust and finding ways to make her feel comfortable.

The first challenge comes when Orlando tries to persuade Alison to get rid of the old furniture and decor that belonged to her ex-husband. Alison is attached to these items and feels that they help her hold on to the relationship. But Orlando gently reminds her that a fresh start is necessary and that letting go of the old will allow her to make room for the new.

Once all traces of the former partner have been waned, Orlando starts work on the renovation. He brings in his team of contractors, including electricians, carpenters, and painters, to give the space a new look. From painting walls new colors to removing heavy drapes and replacing them with flimsy ones to accentuate the natural light in the house, the team works tirelessly to create a cheerful and comfortable space.

Orlando also takes Alison shopping for new furniture. They go to different home décor stores, antique shops, and secondhand markets, looking for unique items that fit Alison's style and personality. She initially has difficulty finding pieces that feel right, but Orlando helps her select items that she loves. Together they assemble the new items, creating a stylish and fresh space that reflects who Alison has become after her divorce.

Throughout the process, Orlando acts as a supportive friend, helping Alison open up about her feelings and encouraging her to let go of her painful past. He encourages her to envision her new life and use this transformation as an opportunity to reinvent herself. By the end of the episode, Alison’s house is very much transformed, and the once-stagnant air has disappeared, and replaced with a gay atmosphere. Both Alison and Orlando have a profound sense of accomplishment, and Alison is primed and motivated to start her new life.
