Unspouse My House is a reality television series where interior designer Orlando Soria paves the way for newly single clients and helps them heal by redesigning their homes to better match their newly-found confidence and independence. In the season 2, episode 4 called "Empty Nest, No Stress", Orlando Soria meets with his client, Ronda, who has raised her family but is now an empty nester. Ronda is unsure of what to do with the extra space she has now that her kids are grown up and out of the house.
As Ronda and Orlando walk through her home, Orlando notices that there is a lot of clutter that needs to be addressed. Ronda admits that she tends to hold onto things and has trouble getting rid of items with sentimental value. Orlando assures her that he can create a space that will allow her to keep the items that are important to her while also decluttering and giving the space a fresh look.
Orlando starts the transformation by decluttering and taking out all the pieces of furniture that Ronda no longer needs. He then revamps the living room, including the installation of wallpaper on one of the walls and adding a large sectional sofa for movie nights. Orlando also creates a cozy reading nook that doubles as a meditation space.
Next, Orlando tackles the kitchen, which he deems too dark and unfunctional. He paints the cabinets white and adds new hardware to give the space a fresh look. Orlando also removes the upper cabinets in favor of open shelving, giving Ronda the opportunity to display some of the dishes she has collected over the years. He also adds a new island and a new backsplash, creating more counter space for Ronda to cook and entertain.
Orlando moves on to the master bedroom, which he transforms into a cozy and inviting space. He adds a king-sized bed with a luxurious headboard, a new dresser, and a sitting area. He also addresses the closet, which was previously overflowing with clothes and shoes. Orlando encourages Ronda to declutter and only keep the items she truly loves and wears.
Finally, Orlando tackles the outdoor space, which he deems too empty. He adds patio furniture and plants, creating a space that is perfect for enjoying the beautiful California weather.
Throughout the episode, Orlando helps Ronda let go of the past and embrace her newfound independence. He encourages her to create a space that reflects who she is as an individual, rather than who she was as a wife and mother. In the end, Ronda is thrilled with the transformation and feels ready to start this new chapter in her life in a space that truly feels like her own.
