Van Helsing season 1 episode 2 titled "Seen You" picks up right where the pilot left off. Vanessa is still adjusting to her new reality as a vampire hunter alongside Axel, who starts to open up about his past as a marine. Meanwhile, the rest of the group attempts to secure a safe haven for themselves after barely escaping the vampire attack on the hospital.
One interesting arc that this episode follows is that of Susan, Vanessa's neighbor whom we met in the pilot. We get to learn more about her character, her struggles, and her motivations. We also get to see how her arc will eventually intersect with Vanessa's, which is exciting to watch.
As the characters continue to traverse a bleak and dangerous world, we learn more about what drove some of them to survive and what they're willing to do to stay alive. We also see the stakes getting higher, as a new kind of vampire makes an appearance and introduces a new element of danger. Will Vanessa and her team be able to handle it?
Overall, "Seen You" is a strong episode that expands on the foundations laid in the pilot. It sets up new conflicts and characters, while also developing the ones we've already been introduced to. In terms of pacing and tension, it's a step up from the first episode, and it keeps the audience engaged and curious about what's going to happen next. It's clear that Van Helsing is working hard to build a rich and complex world, and this episode is a great example of that effort paying off.
