Voices of Fire is a 2020 docuseries that follows Grammy-winning gospel singer, Pastor and Bishop Ezekiel Williams, and his nephew Pharrell Williams, as they embark on a mission to create one of the world's most inspiring gospel choirs. The duo is joined by some of the most talented gospel singers, musicians, and church leaders in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, to audition and create the new choir.
The show is heartwarming and uplifting, supporting the idea of inclusivity, and breaking down the barriers of race, religion, and social status. Bishop Williams and his team travel throughout the area, visiting churches and even looking for talent in unlikely places like coffee shops, to build a choir that will inspire and stir the soul.
Shakara Monique, Keith Ball, and Marcus Richardson are three of the talented singers who auditioned for the choir. Shakara Monique is a mother of two who has been singing her entire life but had put her passion on hold to care for her family. Keith Ball is a former alcoholic who found solace in gospel music and has since devoted his life to it. Marcus Richardson is a young singer with a natural talent for music who wants to use his voice to inspire others.
As the auditions move forward, the group is challenged to come together to learn a range of gospel songs, adapt their musical styles, and learn to perform as a united choir. The series focuses not only on the musical talent of the participants but also on their personal struggles, past traumas and challenges that they have faced.
Bishop Williams, fully committed to his mission, leads the team through a rigorous selection process, to ensure that the best and most talented singers are chosen for the choir. Throughout the series, Pharrell joins in to encourage and support the choir-building process, adding his own creative strategies to build a world-class act.
The camera captures it all, from the intense and grueling practices to the emotional moments shared by the participants. The choir is built from a diverse group of singers, each with their own unique story, different backgrounds, and religious affiliations.
Voices of Fire is a powerful and inspiring story, highlighting the beauty of gospel music and the bonds that can be created through music. The choir-building process emphasizes that music can also be used to build bridges between people, heal and bring them together.
Throughout the series, the choir members not only develop their musical skills but also gain a deeper understanding of themselves and each other. The show is more than just the building of a music choir; it is a story about people coming together, and that's why it touches the heart.
In summary, Voices of Fire is a definite must-watch for gospel music lovers, music enthusiasts in general, and anyone who loves inspiring true stories.
