The Troubled Man is the third and final episode in the fourth and final season of the Swedish television show, Wallander. This episode is based on the ninth and last novel in the Kurt Wallander book series by Swedish author Henning Mankell.

The episode opens with Kurt Wallander (played by Kenneth Branagh) reflecting on the loss of his father and the deterioration of his own health. He is suffering from memory lapses, headaches, and periods of confusion. His doctor suggests that he may have Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia, and Wallander becomes increasingly concerned about his future and the impact it will have on his work.

Meanwhile, Wallander is still investigating the disappearance of Håkan von Enke, a retired naval officer and the father-in-law of Wallander's daughter Linda. Von Enke disappeared while out for a walk on the cliffs near his home in Stockholm. Despite an intensive search, no trace of him has been found. As Wallander delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a web of intrigue that leads him to suspect that von Enke may have stumbled upon a secret during his time in the navy that put him in danger.

Wallander's investigation is complicated by the fact that Linda (played by Jeany Spark) is also dealing with her own personal crisis. She has separated from her husband and is struggling to cope with the emotional fallout of the breakup. Wallander tries to support her as best he can, but his own health problems make it difficult for him to be there for her.

As the investigation progresses, Wallander meets an old friend named Sten Torstensson (played by David Warner), who is a retired naval commander and a former colleague of von Enke's. Torstensson reveals to Wallander that he and von Enke had both been involved in a secret mission during the Cold War that had potentially dangerous implications. Wallander realizes that this mission may have been the reason for von Enke's disappearance, and he becomes more determined than ever to solve the case.

However, as Wallander gets closer to the truth, he realizes that the consequences of his investigation could be deadly. He must make some difficult decisions about whether to pursue the truth at all costs or to protect those he loves from the danger he has uncovered.

The Troubled Man is a gripping, intense episode that delves into the complexities of family relationships, personal struggle, and the devastating impact of dementia. It is a fitting end to the Wallander series, leaving viewers with a sense of closure while also raising important questions about the nature of memory, the nature of truth, and the importance of human connection.
