Ethan Burke, a secret service agent, continues to investigate the mysterious town of Wayward Pines in the third episode of the first season titled "Our Town, Our Law". In the previous episode, Ethan discovered that he could not leave the town, and his car had been totaled in a car accident. In episode three, Ethan tries to make contact with the outside world through the phone but fails to do so. Meanwhile, he is called to investigate the murder of a local bartender, Beverly.

Ethan's investigation brings him to the town's sheriff, Pope, who seems to know more about the town than he is letting on. He is a very religious man and enforces the town's strict laws with a heavy hand. Ethan is already suspicious of Pope's intentions, and their encounter only confirms his fears. After talking to several residents, Ethan learns that the town's surveillance system is everywhere, and privacy is nonexistent.

Ethan also discovers that the town's residents are living in an artificial environment, much like a prison. The town has a strict curfew, and nobody is allowed to wander through the woods surrounding the town. The town's residents are given limited freedom, but they all seem to be under watchful eyes. Ethan gets closer to unraveling the mystery behind Wayward Pines but is met with resistance at every turn.

Meanwhile, Ethan's wife and son are desperately trying to find him from the outside world. They visit his office and talk to his colleagues to find any information they can about Wayward Pines. They manage to get in touch with someone from the town, but the conversation is cut short by the councilwoman, Megan Fisher. Megan is the townspeople's spokesperson and is trying her best to keep them under control.

As Ethan keeps digging, he uncovers more secrets about the town's history and its purpose. He discovers that the town's founder, David Pilcher, built Wayward Pines to protect its residents from the outside world. He wanted to create a utopian society, but his methods were controversial. Pilcher convinced select townspeople to move to the town, where they would be trapped forever, in exchange for safety and security. The town's residents are the descendants of the original settlers. Ethan comes across clues that suggest the residents of Wayward Pines are actually living in the future, and the town is the only safe haven left on Earth.

"Our Town, Our Law" is an intense episode that raises the stakes on the show's mystery element. While the show's pilot episode hinted at something sinister in the air, this episode makes it clear that there is something truly messed up in Wayward Pines. The episode is well-paced, with plenty of moments of tension and suspense, building up to a chilling twist at the end. But the show's real strength lies in its characters, especially Ethan, who is trying to make sense of the town's absurdity while still dealing with the loss of his old life and family.

Wayward Pines episode three further develops the show's mystery plot, but it also delves deeper into the themes of control, freedom, and what it means to be human. It's a well-written episode with excellent pacing, and the acting is top-notch. The show also has a strong visual style that adds to its overall atmosphere, creating a genuinely unsettling experience. While it's still unclear where the show is headed, "Our Town, Our Law" proves that Wayward Pines is not afraid to take risks and push its story in bold new directions.
