Ep 1. You Can't Miss the Bear

In the first episode of Weeds, titled "You Can't Miss the Bear," we are introduced to Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), a suburban mother of two who has recently lost her husband to a heart attack. To make ends meet, Nancy turns to selling marijuana to her neighbors and friends.

Her older son, Shane (Alexander Gould), starts acting out in school, causing Nancy to worry that he might get caught up in drugs himself.

Additionally, Nancy's brother-in-law Andy moves in with her and her children, claiming that he is on the run from the law. Andy is a colorful character who clashes with Nancy at times, but also proves to be a valuable ally in her new business venture.

To complicate matters even further, Nancy's neighbor, Doug Wilson (Kevin Nealon), is a city councilman who is campaigning to make the neighborhood "drug-free." Nancy must navigate the delicate balance between keeping her business running and avoiding detection from Doug and other authorities.

Despite these challenges, Nancy is able to build a successful business selling marijuana to her community. However, as the episode comes to a close, Nancy is faced with a shocking revelation that threatens to upend her entire operation.
