Ep 1. Episode 1

In the first episode of Witnesses, we are introduced to a small town named Tréport, located in northern France. The show starts with the mysterious appearance of fifteen bodies of dead women, all of whom have been carefully arranged and displayed in a nearby canyon.

The investigation is led by two detectives, Sandra Winckler and Justin, who must work together to find the killer and bring justice to the victims. As they delve deeper into the case, they begin to uncover a web of secrets and lies that have been buried within the town for years.

Meanwhile, we are introduced to one of the main characters, Catherine Keemer, a former resident of Tréport who has returned to the town after 15 years. We are not sure why she has returned, but it is clear that she is haunted by a traumatic past that has left her emotionally damaged.

As the investigation progresses, Sandra and Justin begin to suspect that Catherine may be connected to the murders in some way. They discover that she was one of the last people to see one of the victims alive and that she has been keeping secrets from them.

The episode is filled with tension as we are given glimpses of the killer's actions, but are left in the dark about their identity. We watch as Sandra and Justin follow leads and question suspects, all while trying to piece together a motive for the murders.

Witnesses does an excellent job of building suspense and intrigue. The town of Tréport is depicted as a picturesque coastal town, but beneath the surface lies a community with dark secrets. The show has a haunting ambiance that is heightened by the bleak, wintry cinematography.

The acting is superb, with the three main characters being nuanced and multifaceted. Catherine is a character with a troubled past, and Audrey Fleurot's portrayal of her exudes vulnerability and pain. Sandra is a competent detective who is also grappling with personal issues, and Marie Dompnier delivers a fantastic performance as a woman who is trying to keep it together while being haunted by her past. Justin is a character with a quirky sense of humor, and Jan Hammenecker's delivery of the character brings levity to some of the show's darker moments.

Overall, the first episode of Witnesses is an excellent start to the series. The writing is suspenseful, the acting is superb, and the ambiance is appropriately creepy. With the mysterious killer still on the loose and Catherine's past threatening to catch up with her, it is clear that the subsequent episodes will be just as riveting.
