As the seventh episode of Xam'd's first season, "Guardians of Stone" sees the show continue to build on its rich and complex world, following the adventures of protagonist Akiyuki as he tries to unravel the mysteries of his own powers and the conflict between the northern and southern countries.
The episode begins with Akiyuki arriving in the northern capital of Sentan Island, where he is quickly swept up into the city's bustling streets and its rigid hierarchy of government officials, military officers, and ordinary citizens. Despite his powers as a Xam'd, Akiyuki finds himself at a loss in this new environment, struggling to find his bearings amidst the chaos and confusion.
However, this is also where Akiyuki meets Haru, a young girl who works as a courier for a group of resistance fighters. Haru is quick to take Akiyuki under her wing, showing him around the city and helping him blend in with the locals. Along the way, Akiyuki starts to appreciate the rich history and culture of the northern people, with their sophisticated art and architecture, elaborate rituals, and deep reverence for their ancestors.
As Akiyuki and Haru explore the city, they stumble upon a mysterious cave hidden deep beneath the city's streets. Inside, they discover a series of strange artifacts and inscriptions that suggest that the northern people have a long and storied history of fighting against the "white demons" that threaten their land. Akiyuki is intrigued by these legends, sensing that they may hold the key to unlocking his own powers and saving the world from destruction.
Meanwhile, back in the southern capital of Tsumebara, Akiyuki's childhood friend Nakiami is leading a group of Xam'd pilots on a mission to stop a rogue Xam'd that has been causing havoc throughout the city. Along the way, they encounter a group of Ghibas, the dark spirits that possess humans and drive them into violent frenzies. Despite their fearsome reputation, Nakiami and her fellow pilots are able to defeat the Ghibas and capture the rogue Xam'd, bringing it back to the Tsumebara military for study.
However, Nakiami's mission is soon interrupted by a group of invading soldiers from the northern capital, who have come to Tsumebara with a strange proposal: to form an alliance against the white demons, the same enemy that the northern people have been fighting for centuries. Although the Tsumebara council is initially reluctant to accept this offer, Nakiami and her fellow Xam'd pilots argue that the northern forces may be their best hope of defeating the white demons and restoring peace to the world. Thus, Nakiami sets off for Sentan Island, hoping to persuade Akiyuki and the northern resistance fighters to join forces with Tsumebara.
Overall, "Guardians of Stone" is a thrilling and action-packed episode that explores the complexities of the Xam'd universe and the various conflicts and alliances that lie at the heart of the story. With its richly detailed world-building, dynamic characters, and epic battles between mystical creatures, Xam'd is a show that is sure to captivate audiences and keep them glued to the screen from start to finish.
