Liza struggles to balance her personal and professional life in the Younger season 3 episode 9 "Summer Friday". As she tries to navigate the new waters of her relationship with Josh, she's also facing some serious work struggles as well. With her boss Charles seemingly stuck on a new author that he's fawning over and Kelsey MIA thanks to a bout of food poisoning, Liza is feeling the pressure to deliver.
To make matters worse, there's tension between Liza and Diana. The two have never had the most cordial relationship, but it seems to be reaching a boiling point in this episode. Diana is demanding more from Liza and Liza is struggling to keep up with everything on her plate. Meanwhile, Josh is dealing with his own insecurities about their relationship and whether or not Liza is still willing to commit to him.
Despite the tough times, there are some bright spots in "Summer Friday". One of the biggest highlights of the episode is the introduction of a new character: a young woman named Kelsey has befriended during her travels. Kelsey is a free spirit with a penchant for adventure and that sense of spontaneity rubs off on Liza as the two spend more time together. It's refreshing to see Liza let her hair down and enjoy herself for once.
On the business side of things, Liza is trying to juggle multiple projects at once. She's been tapped to help Charles navigate the World Book Day launch, but she's also dealing with the fallout from the failed promotion of her own author's book. With Kelsey out of commission, Liza has to carry the Waterman Press responsibilities on her own. She's feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she's determined to prove herself.
There are a few surprises in store for viewers in "Summer Friday". When Kelsey returns from her travels, she's not alone. She's brought back a new friend with her, but this friend isn't quite who Liza was expecting. Meanwhile, Charles has a plan up his sleeve to help promote their World Book Day titles that might just benefit Liza in more ways than one.
Overall, "Summer Friday" is a standout episode in the third season of Younger. It tackles some weighty topics with honesty and integrity, while still managing to be funny and charming. The chemistry between the cast is as strong as ever and the addition of some new characters keeps things feeling fresh and exciting. Fans of Younger won't want to miss this one.
