Check it Out! with Dr. Steve Brule is a spin-off series that centers on a popular character from Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! Both shows originated on Cartoon Network's nightly block of programming intended for mature audiences, adult swim. Dr. Brule is played on both shows by actor John C. Reilly, a sometimes serious actor who has taken more and more to displaying his comedic chops in recent years.

The show is simply an extended version of the Dr. Brule segments that sporadically appeared on Tim & Eric. Instead of being given only brief clips from the Doctor's low (okay, zero) budget 4:30am local TV show, the new series makes the audience privy to the entire bizarre spectacle from beginning to end.

A typical episode will follow Dr. Brule in his desperate, malapropism-filled attempt to learn something, anything about that day's subject of interest. This often comes as a tremendous challenge to the Doctor since he does not seem to possess any sort of attention span or prior knowledge of the subject he's exploring, nor does he seem to know how to conduct a proper interview that doesn't turn insanely awkward. The show is punctuated with the same random editing jumps, uncomfortable close ups and unnerving audio outbursts that Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim (who also serve as writers, producers, and directors on the show) have become infamous for, and all coated in their same sheen of low quality mid 90's video editing tackiness.

The show is meant to appeal to late night viewers with a taste for cringe and gross-out humor, those who enjoy the absurd and surreal, and just for general fans of the growing alternative comedy scene that lurks beneath the more traditional fare of American comedy.
