Ep 2. Prodigal Son

As the crabbing season enters its second week, the Captains of the Bering Sea are still racing towards the quota. In the second episode of the eleventh season of Deadliest Catch, “Prodigal Son”, we see the captains and their crews continue to face harsh weather conditions and dangerous situations as they fight to catch as much crab as they can.

The episode begins with Captain Sig Hansen of the Northwestern as he struggles to deal with the aftermath of his heart attack last season. While he has been cleared by his doctors to return to the crabbing grounds, he is worried that his health will not hold up for the entire season. Nevertheless, he’s determined to help his brother Edgar catch crab and reach the quota as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Captain Jake Anderson of the Saga is dealing with his own set of challenges. He recently lost his father to cancer and is coping with the loss while still trying to run his crew and catch crab. His emotions are high, and he’s struggling to stay focused as he feels that he’s let his crew down in the past. But he knows that he needs to step up and lead them through this tough season.

Captain Keith Colburn of the Wizard is dealing with his own set of problems as well. He's trying to make up for lost time after spending a considerable amount of it fixing a broken generator.

As the weather and the crabbing season intensify, the captains and their crews have to contend with bigger waves, stronger winds, and the threat of dangerous ice. During one of their trips out in the waters, a member of the Time Bandit crew goes overboard and the team has to race to retrieve him before he succumbs to the freezing temperatures of the water.

Towards the end of the episode, Captain Keith Colburn makes an unexpected decision that could put his crew in danger as he tries to gain a competitive advantage over the other boats. As the Northwestern, Saga, and the other vessels in the fleet continue to chase after the crab, the pressure to catch their quota continues to mount.

“Prodigal Son” is an intense episode of Deadliest Catch, showing the harsh realities of crab fishing in the Bering Sea. The episode highlights the risks the crews are willing to take to get their job done, even if it means putting their lives and safety on the line.
