Lost Girl is a Canadian television series that originated with the Show Case Network and was eventually picked up for distribution by the SyFy Network. It is the story of a succubus named Bo, played by Anna Silk, who is a supernatural creature in the form of a female human. As the series begins, the audience learns that humans unknowingly share the earth with a clan of unearthly creatures who have powers beyond the normal scope of an average human. The clan is known as The Fae and are divided into two warring tribes known as the Dark Fae and the Light Fae, both fighting to control the earth. Bo chooses to be unaligned with either Fae group. Instead, she chooses to use her power as a succubus to help out humans, especially the underdogs of society. However, her power can sometimes be fatal, literally sucking the life out of someone after she has sex with them, unless she can learn to control that power.

Bo has also befriended a young, runaway human named Kenzi, played by Ksenia Solo, who becomes her best friend and side-kick in fighting crime. Although Bo is unaligned with either Fae tribe, she tends to work mostly with the Light Fae, and is even having a relationship with one of them, a police officer named Dyson, played by Kris Holden-Ried. Unlike normal humans, Dyson, who is part Fae, part wolf, can withstand Bo's succubus strength, a strength she must replenish by having sex after each crime fighting adventure.

Bo also becomes involved with a human doctor named Lauren, played by Zoie Palmer. Lauren is actually a captive of the Light Fae and must continue to work for them to repay a debt. As a doctor, Lauren finds a way to help Bo control her strength and even manages to have sex with Bo without dying after the experience.

The series is in essence a love triangle between Bo, Dyson and Lauren enveloped in a gothic tale of good versus evil to destroy humans. In the second season, a new evil is introduced into the story, a supreme power known as The Garuda who has arrived with the sole purpose to destroy all Fae to control the world. In the final episode, Bo destroys The Garuda, only to find out that some of the evil she uses to kill her enemy, has also entered her soul.
