Tracey Ullman's State of the Union Season 3 Episode 6

Ep 6. Season 3, Episode 6

  • March 1, 2010

Tracey Ullman's State of the Union is a sketch comedy show riffing off of current events and pop culture. In season 3, episode 6, Ullman showcases a variety of characters, both real and fictional, poking fun at everything from the pandemic to politics.

One sketch features Ullman as an overly enthusiastic flight attendant, welcoming her few passengers on board with a touch of madness in her eyes. She demonstrates a series of safety protocols, including how to sanitize your hands with the in-flight liquor and how to practice social distancing while getting up to use the restroom.

Another skit sees Ullman embodying an exasperated mother helping her son with remote learning. After a disastrous attempt at math class, Ullman's character cracks open a bottle of wine in frustration, only to find out that the next lesson is gym class, forcing her to quickly find a sports bra and get her sweat on.

Ullman also takes on the role of Jane Fonda in a hilarious send-up of the actress turned activist's workout videos. Clad in '80s style spandex and a frizzy wig, Ullman accurately parodies Fonda's over-the-top style, but injects it with her own wit and humor.

In other segments, Ullman spoofs everyone from Queen Elizabeth II to Melania Trump. As the queen, she is seen casually hanging out at home in a tracksuit, doing phone interviews with various publications. As Melania, she riffs on the first lady's stoicism and posh accent, but gives her a bit more bite than usual.

Ullman also presents an original character called Sally Preston, a TV host who specializes in crafting. In this episode, Sally shows the audience how to make a mask out of nothing more than toilet paper and rubber bands, highlighting the absurdity of the current situation we find ourselves in.

Throughout the episode, Ullman offers up a range of laughs and insights into the bizarre world around us. She touches on the hardships of the pandemic, the never-ending political circus, and the challenges of adapting to life in isolation. But ultimately, she brings a sense of lightheartedness to it all, making us laugh at the things that might otherwise make us cry.
