Barnyard, also known as Barnyard: The Original Party Animals is a Nickelodeon production that was later turned into a TV series of the same name. Written, directed and co-produced by Steve Oedekerk the movie was a box office success despite mixed reviews from critics; the movie is entirely computer generated and is produced in the same style as other Nickelodeon productions, such as Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. The plot of Barnyard centers on the character of Otis, a large bull who consistently shirks his responsibilities to the rest of the farm animals in favor of partying. The barn used to house the animals at night is equipped to turn into a party room in which the animals walk around on their hind legs and talk in English. A recurring joke in the movie is the constant injuries inflicted on the farmer to remove his memory after he sees the animals walking and talking. Otis lets down his adopted father, Ben by not taking part in his shifts securing the fence of the farm from attacks by predators including coyotes; Otis, played by Kevin James chooses a night of partying over helping Ben on a night coyote's attack. Ben is killed in the fight he wins to repel the coyote's. Otis is elected the leader of the farm animals in place of Ben and allows the animals to party, walk and talk in front of humans. Finally, deciding to leave the barnyard for good Otis is informed the coyote's, led by Dag have returned and taken a group of hens and a small chick befriended by the bull. Otis finally stands up to his responsibilities by entering the coyote's lair and rescuing the chickens and chick; returning to the barnyard Otis becomes the adopted father of Lil' Ben who is born to newcomer Daisy the cow. Director Oedekerk became famous for his work with Jim Carrey on the Ace Ventura series of films.
