Directed by Sidney Poitier, music score by Henry Mancini, starring Bill Cosby, Kimberly Russel, Denise Nicholas, Christine Ebersole, Barry Corbin and Ian Bannen as Sir Edith Moser, Ghost Dad is a family comedy set around tragedy. Elliot Hopper, played by Bill Cosby, is a recent widower with three children. He is struggling to make ends meet and pull his family out of the red. Elliot never has time for his family as work is always at the front of his priorities. He has a plan for a big deal at work that could land him a promotion and a car. On the way to work Elliot hails a cab driven by Curtis Burch (Raynor Scheine), the cab driver is a Satanic psycho who drives off a bridge killing Elliot (Bill Cosby) and himself. Elliot returns home to find that his children can see him in dimly lit rooms but not hear him. A researcher Sir Edith Moser (Ian Bannen) discovers Elliot's plight and decides to go to London to research it further. He explains to Elliot that he his spirit has jumped from his body and he has until next Thursday to finish what he started. Meanwhile, Elliot is juggling work, his pending promotion and family, learning that they never were the objects of his attention while alive. Elliot is faced with a dilemma on the day of his big presentation at his work. His son has asked for his help at school performing a magic trick. Elliot decides family is more important and is fired by his boss Mr. Collins (Barry Corbin) and does indeed help his son at school. Sir Edith Moser (Ian Bannen) returns with good news that Elliot may not be dead if he can find his body and jump back in it. Excited Diane (Kimberly Russel) his daughter runs down the stairs and slips on a pair of roller skates landing her in a coma. Diane jumps out of her body at the ER and is enjoying her out-of-body experience when her dad Elliot starts to fade for good. Time is running out!
