This made-for-TV movie adapts the Christian Gospels with a few creative flairs not found in other versions. Trying to demonstrate Jesus' humanity, the filmmakers included scenes of him becoming quite emotional, playfully splashing his disciples, skipping stones in the Galilee, etc. Other scenes depict medieval and modern wars, apparently as a contrast to Jesus' pacifism. (These are sometimes cut for time when aired on television.) An attempt is made to humanize Caiaphas, the High Priest, into being a sincere defender of the Jewish Temple; more traditionally, Mary Magdalene is presented as a prostitute, despite modern scholarship generally discrediting that theory.
