Ep 1. Hired

In the first episode of the Adult Swim animated series "12 oz. Mouse," we are introduced to our protagonist Mouse Fitzgerald, a blue, anthropomorphic mouse who is a heavy drinker and lives in a run-down trailer. Mouse begins the episode by waking up in a daze and stumbling outside to his friends, Skillet and Peanut Cop, who inform him that he needs money to keep living in his trailer. Mouse decides to go job hunting and eventually finds employment at a fast food joint called Roostre's.

Mouse meets a cast of eccentric characters at Roostre's, including the owner, Roostre, who is a giant chicken, and his sexy, humanoid girlfriend Rhoda, who also works at the restaurant. Mouse's other coworkers include Shark, a surly shark with bandages all over his body, and Buzby, a nerdy bee who seems to have a crush on Rhoda.

Throughout most of the episode, Mouse struggles with his new job, which involves taking orders and cooking burgers. He is frequently distracted by his obsession with the alcoholic drink "Groggle," which he is constantly sneaking sips of in the bathroom. Mouse also clashes with Shark, who doesn't like him and seems to delight in making his life harder. However, Mouse manages to impress Roostre with his willingness to work hard and his ability to take down a group of rowdy customers with a single blow.

As the day wears on, tensions begin to rise at Roostre's. Rhoda becomes increasingly jealous of Mouse's flirting with her, and Shark becomes increasingly aggressive towards Mouse. Eventually, things come to a head when Shark accuses Mouse of stealing a burger, leading to a chaotic fight between the two of them that destroys much of the restaurant. In the end, Mouse is fired and forced to leave Roostre's.

Despite the disaster at his job, Mouse manages to turn his luck around when he runs into a wealthy businessman named Man-Woman, who randomly offers him a job as a spy. Man-Woman gives Mouse a briefcase full of money and tells him to meet him at a specified location the next day to receive further instructions.

The episode ends with Mouse wandering off, seemingly unsure of what to do with his newfound wealth and status as a spy. Overall, "Hired" sets up "12 oz. Mouse" as a zany, irreverent cartoon that makes little sense on the surface but is full of weird, fascinating characters and unexpected plot twists.
