In season 2, episode 1, of America Unearthed titled "Ark of the Covenant," host Scott Wolter searches for the iconic artifact that is believed to have once held the Ten Commandments. Wolter explores various theories from ancient texts and religious beliefs that could lead to the Ark's discovery. He begins by visiting the oldest synagogues in the world in Jerusalem to learn more about the history and significance of the Ark.
Wolter then travels to Ethiopia, where he meets with a group of Ethiopian Christians who claim to have possession of the Ark. They take him to the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion, where the Ark is said to be held. However, the church does not allow outsiders to see the Ark, and Wolter is unable to confirm their claims.
Next, Wolter investigates a theory that suggests the Ark was transported to America and is now hidden there. He meets with a historian who believes that the Ark was brought to America during the Civil War, and hidden in a tunnel in West Virginia. Wolter and a team of experts use ground-penetrating radar to search for the tunnel, but come up empty-handed.
Wolter then turns his attention to a Native American legend that tells of a group who possesses the Ark. He travels to the Hopi Reservation in Arizona to investigate the story. He meets with a tribal elder who explains the legend and shows him a stone tablet that is said to depict the Ark being carried by the Hopi.
Finally, Wolter returns to his home state of Minnesota to investigate a theory that the Ark is hidden in a cave system there. He meets with a researcher who believes that the cave was used by the Knights Templar to store treasures, including the Ark. With the help of a spelunker, Wolter explores the cave system and discovers some intriguing artifacts that could be linked to the Knights Templar.
Throughout the episode, Wolter encounters several obstacles and setbacks in his search for the Ark of the Covenant. However, he remains determined to uncover the truth behind the mysterious artifact and its possible whereabouts.
