Ep 20. Gift Me Liberty

Roger the alien is keen on impressing his friends and American Dad! in the 11th season's 20th episode, named Gift Me Liberty. In the episode, Roger decides to throw a "wine and cheese" party at the Smiths' home to show off his wealth and knowledge of fine and rare wines.

Although the Smiths are hesitant at first, they eventually agree to let Roger host the party, given that they themselves have nothing to prove. However, when Roger reveals that he is hosting the party to cater to his own vanity, the situation quickly spirals out of control. Roger ends up stocking the house full of expensive wines, and as the night progresses, his ego and pride start to get the better of him.

On the other hand, the Smiths' neglected, and often-abused domestic helper, Toshi, finds himself inspiring and rallying his fellow neglected house staff from various residences around Langley Falls. The staffs repeatedly endure maltreatment and abuse from their several employers, so when Toshi crafts a rousing speech about fighting for their dignity, which he once sees the Smiths show to each of their employees, they quickly get inspired.

Back at the Smiths' party, Roger starts to feel threatened by Terry who arrives with a rare vintage wine from France. Roger's anxiety peaks when Terry starts to garner more attention and praise from the guests. Desperate to one-up Terry, Roger comes up with an elaborate scheme to steal the wine and replace it with a cheaper one.

Despite Roger's efforts, however, the guests end up hating the cheaper wine, and Roger's plan backfires. Infuriated, Terry decides to leave the party with his rare wine.

Meanwhile, Toshi manages to spearhead a full-blown insurrection against his sort of bosses, shutting, if not indirectly, down everyone's household; his fellow domestic workers quickly flee their various locations and join him. When the Smiths arrive home, they are amazed to find the house staff cleaning up the party mess and looking proud and dignified.

In the end, Roger realizes that his vanity had gotten the best of him, and apologizes to Terry for his actions. He also learns a valuable lesson on humility, and the importance of befriending others for their company, not their status. American Dad! season 11 episode 20, Gift Me Liberty, hilariously explores themes around pride, consumerism, and friendship in typical American Dad! style.
