In American Pickers season 16, episode 5, titled "Shocked and Loaded", the Pickers team continues their search for hidden treasures across America while facing some unexpected challenges along the way.
In this episode, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz explore the backroads of Georgia in search of unique and valuable items that hold historical significance and cultural importance. Since they have a tight schedule to keep, Mike and Frank must make quick decisions while being reminded of the importance of assessing the value of each object, which is the basis of their business model.
As usual, the two pickers meet with a variety of interesting characters during their journey, all of whom have unique collections of their own to offer. For instance, they come across a man who has spent his entire life collecting gas and oil memorabilia. However, the collector has not only amassed a tremendous collection, but he has also created a museum for the public to view his cherished items.
Furthermore, the Pickers team discovers a farm that has quite a few items that are embedded in the local history of Georgia. While they are rummaging through the odds and ends scattered around the farm, the pickers become indecisive regarding which items to choose. Nevertheless, with the help of the farmer, they narrow their search down to the most valuable objects and make a deal that suits both parties.
The Pickers also encounter oddities that are not solely related to antiques. When they meet a collector of western memorabilia, they are surprised to find out that the gentleman creates art pieces using actual farm equipment like bailers and plows. While they cannot purchase the intricate artwork, they do manage a few excellent items that the collector has stashed away for them.
Mike and Frank are shocked by how much some of the collections have grown since their last visit. They also learn that some collectors find their items very valuable and are not going to give them up easy. In these situations, the Pickers must use their negotiation skills to find an equitable settlement.
Finally, the pickers come across a homeowner who has recently purchased a small suburban house. However, the seller left all the contents of the house and its outbuildings behind, leading to a treasure trove of antiques and collectibles. The Pickers find a variety of items from this hoard that they can sell for a profit.
Throughout the journey, the Pickers team faces various obstacles, including interference from the local authorities. Nevertheless, they manage to come out on top, finding treasures that are not only valuable from a monetary standpoint but also historically and culturally significant. Fans of the show can expect action-packed adventures and exciting discoveries along with a few challenges, as Mike and Frank continue their search for hidden gems across America.
