Animals. is an animated comedy television series that premiered on HBO on February 5, 2016. The show is directed by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano. Set in New York City, the show follows the lives of various animals, both wild and domesticated. Each episode explores the unique and often humorous perspectives of these animals as they navigate their daily lives.

In season 1 episode 4 of Animals. titled "Dogs", the focus is on the city's canine population. The episode showcases the different personalities of dogs by featuring various breeds and their owners. The episode opens with a poodle and a pitbull sitting in a dog park having a conversation about their respective owners. The poodle, voiced by Tatiana Maslany, is eager to please and believes her owner is the best person in the world. The pitbull, voiced by Nick Kroll, is suspicious of his owner and thinks there may be more to life than just chasing balls and eating treats.

The episode then shifts its focus to a pair of dachshunds who are being taken on a walk by their elderly owner. The dachshunds, voiced by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano, are tired of being owned and instead fantasize about being wild and free. They imagine what it would be like to run with a pack of other dogs and howl at the moon. The scene is humorous, as the old man walking them has no idea what his dogs are thinking.

Next, the episode introduces a Great Dane named Duke, voiced by Jason Mantzoukas. Duke is a therapy dog who visits a retirement home, and the residents love him. The catch is that Duke is actually a cynical and depressed dog who hates his job. He finds the old people depressing and wishes he could be anywhere else. Despite his feelings, he continues to show up each week and puts on a fake cheerful façade for the residents.

The episode then jumps to a dog run where a group of dogs are gathered. The group consists of a French bulldog, a Chihuahua, a German shepherd, and a golden retriever. The golden retriever, voiced by Chelsea Peretti, is the only one who can speak English and often acts as a translator for the group. They spend their time discussing their owners and their various quirks and habits. The scene is filled with humor as each dog has a unique personality and way of speaking.

The final scene of the episode features a Rottweiler named Trevor, voiced by Rob Corddry. Trevor is a drug-sniffing dog who works for the NYPD. He is partnered with a human officer and together they spend their time busting drug dealers. The catch is that Trevor is actually addicted to drugs himself. He spends his off time getting high in abandoned buildings and ignoring his partner's calls. The scene is both funny and poignant as it highlights the dangers of drug addiction and the power it can have over anyone, including dogs.

Overall, season 1 episode 4 of Animals. titled "Dogs" is a hilarious and insightful look at the lives of our furry friends. Each segment is unique and showcases a different aspect of the canine experience. The episode is sure to leave viewers laughing and appreciating their own dogs a little bit more.
