In Antiques Road Trip season 13 episode 9, antique experts travel across the UK to hunt for valuable and rare items to sell at auction. This episode features two of the show's regular experts - James Braxton and Raj Bisram - as they set off on their journey.
The episode opens with James and Raj in a jovial mood as they begin their road trip from Tadley, Hampshire. They both express their excitement at visiting new locations and meeting people who are passionate about antiques. James, who is known for his extensive knowledge of furniture and ceramics, says he intends to look for "quirky and interesting" pieces. Raj, who favours jewellery and watches, is hoping to find some "spectacular items" to add to his collection.
Their first stop is in Petersfield, where they visit an antique shop owned by an old friend of Raj's. They are welcomed warmly and given a tour of the shop, where they find a variety of items including a rare 19th-century carriage clock and a Victorian silver snuff box. Raj is particularly taken with a gold and enamel brooch, while James is interested in a set of six Georgian dining chairs.
After making some purchases, they head to their next destination - Arundel. Here they visit a medieval castle where they meet the curator, who shows them around the many galleries and exhibits. Raj is enchanted by a delicate diamond tiara that once belonged to a French countess, while James admires a 17th-century tapestry depicting a hunting scene.
Next, the experts visit a private estate in Sussex where they are given a tour of the grounds by the owner, who explains the history of the house and the many valuable items within. James is particularly impressed by a large collection of Worcester porcelain and a striking painting by JMW Turner. Raj is delighted to discover a 1960s Omega watch in its original box.
The last stop on their journey is in Kent, where they visit a dealer who specialises in early English furniture. Here they find a 16th-century oak coffer and a rare 17th-century candle stand. Raj is thrilled to discover a diamond and sapphire ring from the Edwardian era, while James is interested in a carved oak panel from a medieval church.
After a successful road trip, the experts head to the auction in Barford, Warwickshire, where they hope to make a profit on their purchases. They are joined by other antique experts and enthusiasts who are also bidding on items. The atmosphere is tense as the auctioneer takes bids on each lot, with some items reaching impressive prices.
Throughout the episode, viewers are treated to not only the fascinating history behind each item but also the friendly banter and competitiveness between James and Raj. The experts' knowledge and enthusiasm for antiques make for an engaging and entertaining viewing experience.
