Two of Britain's best-known antiques experts compete against each other in Antiques Road Trip. They travel in vintage cars to different parts of the country, seeking out rare and valuable items, which they then take to auction. The ultimate aim is to make the most profit possible for charity. In season 18, episode 7, both Mark Stacey and Natasha Raskin Sharp are on a mission to find the best items to take to auction.
The episode starts with Mark Stacey heading to a small antiques shop in Leominster. He meets the owner, who has a collection of vintage toys going back over 100 years. Mark is a big fan of toys and is excited to see what's on offer. He browses the collection and finds a couple of interesting pieces, but the real gem is a rare Star Wars toy. Mark knows this could be a big seller at auction and makes a deal with the owner.
Meanwhile, Natasha is in a Scottish brewery, hoping to find something unique to take to auction. She meets the master brewer and learns about the brewing process. But she's not there for the beer; she's looking for interesting items related to the brewery's history. She comes across an old advertising sign that catches her eye. It's for a beer that was popular in the 1920s and is now rare. Natasha negotiates with the brewer and strikes a deal.
The next stop for Mark is an antique bookseller in the vibrant city of Bristol. He meets the owner, who has an incredible collection of rare books dating back to the 17th century. Mark is impressed but knows he needs to find something that will make a good profit. He spends hours poring over the books and finally finds a first edition of Alice in Wonderland. Mark knows this is a valuable find and makes a deal with the bookseller.
Natasha, meanwhile, is in a small town in Scotland, on the hunt for art. She visits a local artist who specialises in landscape paintings. Natasha is surprised to find that the artist is not interested in selling his paintings, but he does have a rare art nouveau lamp that he's willing to part with. Natasha is delighted with her find and knows it will be popular at auction.
The final stop for both Mark and Natasha is an auction house in Edinburgh. They meet the auctioneer and hand over their items. Mark's Star Wars toy, Alice in Wonderland book, and a 1950s clock are up for auction, while Natasha's art nouveau lamp, rare beer sign, and an antique vase are also on the block. Both experts are nervous as they wait for the bidding to start.
The auction is a success, and both Mark and Natasha make a profit for charity. Mark's rare Star Wars toy sells for much more than he expected, and he's thrilled with the result. Natasha's rare beer sign also attracts a lot of attention, and she's pleased with the profit it makes. The art nouveau lamp sells for a high price, and Natasha is delighted for charity.
In the end, it's a close race between Mark and Natasha, but Mark comes out on top with a total profit of £330.31, while Natasha makes a profit of £315.50. Both experts are pleased with their results and happy to have raised money for charity. The episode ends with Mark and Natasha saying their goodbyes and setting off on their next adventure.
