Antiques Roadshow Season 12 Episode 15 Louisville - Hour 3

  • May 5, 2008

In this episode of Antiques Roadshow, the show travels to Louisville for its third hour of appraisal. The experts are ready to examine the treasures that the residents of Louisville have brought in, hoping to discover hidden values in their antiques.

One of the items that catches the attention of the appraisers is an impressive painting of a bullfighter, which was created in the late 1800s by the renowned Spanish artist Francisco de Goya. Another painting that piques the interest of the appraisers is a portrait of what appears to be a well-to-do woman from the 1700s, reportedly created by a lesser-known artist named John Hayter.

Antique firearms also make an appearance in this episode, including a pair of ornate Colt pistols from the 1850s that are embellished with gold and silver. A rare gunbelt with an embossed buffalo decoration also impresses the appraisers, and they give the owner some insight into its history and value.

One of the most intriguing items that comes through the door is a collection of letters and documents signed by the legendary Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The documents, which include a signed letter and a set of orders issued during the Civil War, are evaluated by one of the show's appraisers, who provides some fascinating background information on the general and his legacy.

Not all of the items brought in are worth a fortune, however. One woman brings in a large collection of 1950s toys, including a Barbie doll and a collection of Matchbox cars. While the items hold sentimental value for the owner, they are not particularly rare or valuable. Another woman brings in a collection of vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia, which includes a set of glasses with the soft drink logo emblazoned on them. The appraiser explains that while these items may not be worth a lot of money, they are still highly collectible and prized by many enthusiasts.

As always, the appraisers offer their expert opinions on each item that comes through the door, and provide some interesting tidbits of historical knowledge and context. Whether the items turn out to be worth thousands of dollars or mere cents, the show provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of antiques and collectibles, and the stories behind them.
