Ballykissangel Season 3 Episode 11 Amongst Friends

Tears, recriminations, affection and fond memories follow the tragic death of Assumpta Fitzgerald from electrocution in Episode 10. "As we speak, the people of Bally K are wandering around as if their feet are in treacle. It's an effort to put one foot in front of the other," teacher Brendan Kearney tells Father Peter Clifford. "There's nowhere to go, no reason to go there. The people need comfort." Peter is still stunned and distressed, "I can't give them comfort. I can't bring her back. I can't even tell them that her life had meaning, because right now I'm not sure that it did." Brian Quigley tells inquisitive journalist, Carmel Power (Ingrid Craigie), looking to uncover a romantic link between the priest and the bar-owner, "She walked her side of the street, I walked mine. We had our differences. I respected her." But the villagers are united in their respect. Father MacAnally wants to know what Peter's plans are. "Do whatever it is you have to do," Peter tells him curtly. "I think most people would prefer if you fought your demons among your friends," Niamh Egan tells Peter, still urging him to officiate at the christening of her baby, Kieran. The appearance of Assumpta's husband, Leo (James Nesbitt), wanting to know the truth about the special relationship between Peter and Assumpta, could be the catalyst for a showdown-unless Peter can rein in his anger. The episode ends with a hilltop wake, and the decision by Peter to leave Ballykissangel for good.
