Ep 1. Pilot

Catherine "Cat" Chandler saw something that changed her life. Witnessing her mother's murder years ago, Cat has grown up working as a New York City homicide detective. She recently caught the eye of her boss, Captain Joe Bishop, who politely hinted that he has feelings for her. Cat is happy to be escaping on a short beach vacation, but while bathing in the ocean, she hears a woman's screams from shore and rushes to save her. When she ends up getting attacked by the men who were hurting the other woman, Cat almost dies until a mysterious man arrives to save her.

Vincent Keller, a former soldier, has been in hiding for the past nine years after being injected with a drug that turned him into a beast. The government had told him that he was the only person with this side effect, but Vincent believed otherwise when another "beast" appeared years later and started committing crimes. Fearing the government was sending more animals after him, Vincent had cut himself off from his past life and had been living a secluded life ever since, avoiding people and dangerous situations that could trigger his inner demons.

Vincent quickly fades into the night after saving Cat and doesn't seem to want to have any contact with her, but Cat is determined to figure out who he is and how he did what he did. When she eventually finds Vincent, Cat discovers that he's not a monster but an involuntary test subject for a corrupt government organization called Muirfield. She helps him with his medication, something that keeps his inner Beast, the reason he kept himself in hiding for so long, from manifesting. Afterward, Cat brings Vincent back to her apartment to tend to his wounds, but their tranquil moment is when Catherine's mother comes back to life and begs her to know about Vincent.

There was an instant connection between Catherine and Vincent that can't be ignored; both with secrets and a last chance to find some semblance of happiness, they work together to keep Vincent's true identity hidden and to unravel the mystery of Muirfield. The journey is not going to be easy, though, as Muirfield's experiments aren't the only mysterious things going on in the city. Vincent and Cat must also navigate the complicated nature of their relationship and the new danger that it brings to their lives.

Overall, the pilot of Beauty and the Beast sets up a promising premise for the rest of the season. Detective Catherine Chandler found something that changed her life while on vacation.
