Black Monday is a comedic and satirical television series that premiered on SHOWTIME in 2019. The show centres around the infamous Black Monday stock market crash that occurred on October 19, 1987. Black Monday was one of the largest one-day percentage drops in stock market history and it is estimated that the crash caused over $1 trillion in losses worldwide.

The series stars Don Cheadle as an unpredictable and ruthless Wall Street trader named Maurice "Mo" Monroe, Andrew Rannells as Blair Pfaff, a talented and ambitious up-and-coming trader, and Paul Scheer as Keith Shankar, a socially awkward yet highly intelligent trader. The show takes place in the year leading up to the crash and explores the greed, excess, and corruption that was rampant in the financial industry at the time.

Mo is a charismatic and dynamic character who is driven by his desire to make as much money as possible, regardless of the consequences. He runs a small, dubious trading firm called The Jammer Group, and his main goal is to beat his competitors and make a profit at any cost. Mo is also involved in a secret and illegal deal with the Vice President of the United States, who is played by Kurtwood Smith. The two men are working together to take over a major airline, and they will stop at nothing to make it happen.

Blair is a young and talented trader who is hired by Mo to join The Jammer Group. He is determined to succeed on Wall Street, and he quickly becomes Mo's protege. However, Blair soon realizes that Mo's world is much more dangerous and corrupt than he ever imagined. He must navigate a world of insider trading, blackmail, and manipulation if he wants to make it to the top.

Keith is a socially awkward trader who is obsessed with numbers and statistics. He works for a rival firm called Georgina & Georgina, but he is constantly looking for ways to advance his career. Keith is often the butt of the joke and the target of his colleagues' mocking, but he is also a brilliant trader who is always crunching numbers and analyzing data.

The show features an ensemble cast of talented actors who bring their characters to life in a hilarious and irreverent way. In addition to the main trio of Cheadle, Rannells, and Scheer, the show also stars Regina Hall as Mo's girlfriend Dawn, a talented and ambitious trader who is determined to make it on Wall Street. Casey Wilson plays Tiff Georgina, the daughter of the billionaire owner of Georgina & Georgina, who is struggling to prove herself to her father and advance in the company.

Black Monday is a fast-paced and witty show that uses humour to explore the world of high finance in the late 1980s. The series is filled with pop culture references, music from the era, and hilarious parodies of classic movies and TV shows. At its heart, the show is a commentary on greed, power, and the corrupting influence of money. It highlights the excess and decadence of the 1980s and how these factors contributed to the rise of Wall Street as an untouchable force in American society.

The show's creators, David Caspe and Jordan Cahan, have a background in comedy and it shows in the writing. Black Monday is full of sharp dialogue, wacky hijinks, and unexpected twists and turns. The show does not shy away from the darker side of its subject matter, but it manages to balance the satire with heart and humour.

Overall, Black Monday is an entertaining and clever show that offers a unique take on a pivotal moment in American history. The show's excellent cast and writing make it a must-watch for fans of comedy and drama alike.
