Ep 2. The City That Never Sleeps

In Blue Bloods season 4 episode 2, titled "The City That Never Sleeps," the Reagan family is busy dealing with their own individual challenges while simultaneously trying to uphold law and order in the city of New York.

Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), who is a detective in the NYPD, is investigating a brutal murder of a young woman in her apartment. Danny relentlessly pursues the killer, but not before facing various challenges such as dealing with the victim's angry father and the bureaucratic obstacles of the police department.

Jamie (Will Estes) is busy dealing with the effects of a viral video that went viral. In the video, he is seen roughing up a suspect while he was on duty. The viral video leads to a city-wide debate about police brutality. Ultimately, Jamie has to address the situation in a press conference where he provides the public with his perspective on the incident.

Meanwhile, Erin (Bridget Moynahan), who works as an Assistant District Attorney, is dealing with a case involving a wealthy socialite accused of assaulting a police officer. She believes the socialite's lawyer is stalling and not presenting evidence in a timely manner to allow the case to drag on which is usual in such cases for wealthy people. Erin tries to use her legal abilities to expedite the case and bring justice to the victim.

Lastly, Frank (Tom Selleck), who is the Police Commissioner, is dealing with the fallout of the viral video and its impact on the public's perception of the NYPD. He is also dealing with his own personal issues as his old friend is dying, and he confronts his mortality and reminisces fondly of old good times together.

Throughout the episode, the Reagan family members are shown juggling their own personal responsibilities along with their duty to society. The relationships between the family members are strengthened through mutual support and resolve. The City That Never Sleeps is an episode that showcases the various complexities of everyday life while demonstrating the importance of law and order.
