In the second episode of Bored to Death's first season, entitled "The Alanon Case," the main character, Jonathan (played by Jason Schwartzman), finds himself in a precarious situation when he asks for help from his friend and comic book artist, Ray (Zach Galifianakis).

Jonathan, a struggling writer who moonlights as an unlicensed private detective, is hired by a woman from the Alanon support group to investigate her alcoholic husband's infidelity. However, Jonathan quickly realizes that he is in over his head when he discovers that the husband is actually a famous chef who is cooking for Robert Plant's birthday party.

Determined to solve the case and earn his fee, Jonathan enlists Ray's help to infiltrate the party and gather evidence of the husband's infidelity. However, their mission becomes complicated when Ray falls for one of the party guests and Jonathan has to deal with his own romantic interests.

Meanwhile, Jonathan's boss, magazine editor George (Ted Danson), is going through his own crisis, as he struggles to come up with a new cover story to impress his boss.

As the episode progresses, we see Jonathan and Ray navigate their way through the party, encountering various obstacles and humorous mishaps along the way. We also see George's creative process as he tries to come up with a new idea for the magazine cover, with the help of some marijuana-laced brownies.

Overall, "The Alanon Case" is an entertaining episode that showcases the quirky humor and offbeat charm of Bored to Death. It also sets up some interesting plot developments for future episodes, as we see Jonathan and his friends continue to navigate their way through the zany world of Brooklyn's literary and artistic scene.
