The episode titled "L'Ami de Mitsuki," or "Mitsuki's Friend," is the 29th episode of the second season of the anime series Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The show, set in the same universe as its predecessor Naruto, follows the story of Boruto, the son of Naruto and Hinata, as he navigates through the ninja world with his new classmates from the ninja academy.
In this episode, Mitsuki, one of Boruto's closest friends, receives a visit from an old friend from his past, Ohtsutski Sekiei. The two boys were once subjects of experimentation at a facility known as "The Land of Valleys," and they had shared a close bond during their time there.
Ohtsutski's arrival creates tension within the group, especially for Boruto and Sarada, who are suspicious of the new kid. They are not sure if Ohtsutski is there to cause trouble or if he genuinely wants to reconnect with Mitsuki. Boruto and Sarada's feelings are not helped by the fact that Ohtsutski is a member of the common enemy that the group has been fighting against – the mysterious organisation known as Kara.
Meanwhile, Mitsuki seems hesitant to reveal the full extent of his history with Ohtsutski to his friends. He wants to protect their friendship and does not want to cause any trouble within the already fragile group dynamic. When Sasuke, Boruto's mentor, meets Ohtsutski for the first time, he reveals that the boy is not from the small village that Ohtsutski claims he's from. This revelation sets off a chain of events that lead Boruto and his friends to the hidden underground laboratory where the two boys were experimented.
The episode delves into the complex relationship between Mitsuki and Ohtsutski. As the group reaches the old laboratory's ruins, Ohtsutski reveals the truth about Mitsuki's origins. He tells them that Mitsuki was created in secret as an artificial human to carry out Orochimaru's will and that Ohtsutski, who had become Mitsuki's friend during their stay at the laboratory, was created as his loyal protector.
As the group continues to explore the ruins, Ohtsutski senses an ominous presence nearby and decides to leave the group before it's too late. Before departing, Ohtsutski encourages Mitsuki to continue leading the life he wants and to remember that he has the potential to become anything he wants, including a ninja.
The episode ends with the group returning to the village, with Mitsuki more conflicted and unsure of his identity than ever before. As he reflects on Ohtsutski's messages, Mitsuki ponders whether he wants to embrace his Orochimaru-given destiny or follow his dreams of becoming a ninja.
