Botched Up Bodies Season 1 Episode 3

Botched Up Bodies Season 1 Episode 3 Episode 3

Botched Up Bodies is a British television series that showcases the world of cosmetic surgery and reconstructive procedures gone wrong. The show follows the journeys of patients who have undergone procedures that have resulted in catastrophic outcomes and how they seek help from highly skilled surgeons to correct the damage.

In episode 3 of season 1 of Botched Up Bodies, we meet a young woman named Holly who had breast augmentation surgery when she was just 18 years old. The procedure, which she claims was carried out by an untrained cosmetic surgeon, resulted in her having two different-sized breasts. The larger breast had developed a capsular contracture, which is the hardening of scar tissue around the implant causing the breast to become firmer and in Holly's case, visibly deformed. Feeling very self-conscious and embarrassed, Holly visits Dr. Hussein, a plastic surgeon, seeking corrective surgery.

Dr. Hussein, after examining Holly's breasts and discussing her surgery history, informs her that she needs to undergo a capsulectomy to remove the hardened scar tissue and replace her implants with newer ones to achieve symmetry. Holly is delighted by the prospect of finally being able to wear fitted clothes without feeling self-conscious.

Episode 3 also introduces us to 49-year-old Lisa, who, following a gastric sleeve surgery, was left with huge amounts of excess skin around her tummy. Lisa undergoes multiple procedures from a tummy tuck to a thigh lift to remove all the sagging skin, but the surgeries had unwanted consequences. After surgery, Lisa experienced multiple infections that led to a partial skin loss in her feet, which had to be treated with skin grafts and left her unable to walk without the aid of crutches.

Determined to shed her external devices and to be able to walk without any support, Lisa decides to undergo a corrective surgery that involves transplanting her own skin from her thigh to her feet. She turns to a plastic surgeon, Dr. Saleh, with whom she had worked before, to carry out the procedure.

Dr. Saleh informs Lisa that the skin grafting procedure comes with its own set of risks, and complications could arise such as her feet becoming infected. Lisa is conflicted between going ahead with the risky surgery or living with her crutches for the rest of her life. The surgery is ultimately a success, and Lisa is overjoyed by the fact that for the first time in a long time, she can walk without support.

Another patient, 27-year-old Izzy, who suffers from Poland Syndrome, visits the show. Poland Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects the development of chest muscle and the breast on one side of the body. Izzy was born without a breast on her left side and underwent a mastectomy to remove the breast tissue on her right side, leaving her with an imbalance in her breast size and shape.

She seeks the intervention of plastic surgeon Dr. Hussein regarding her condition and wants to see if corrective surgery can give her symmetrical breasts and a positive self-image. Dr. Hussein devises an innovative plan to rebuild the lost breast from the skin and fat on the patient's stomach, creating a new breast that is an exact match to the existing breast.

In summary, episode 3 of Botched Up Bodies brings to light the consequences of rushed cosmetic surgeries, untrained surgeons, and how corrective surgeries play a crucial part in the journey towards self-confidence and body positivity. The show highlights the importance of selecting the right surgeons with the required qualifications and certifications, as well as the importance of fully understanding the risks involved in any given procedure.
