Ep 12. Aaliyah & Alicia

Aaliyah, a teenager from the impoverished town of Bellflower, California contacted the Catfish team after discovering her online girlfriend Alicia had been lying to her about her identity. The two girls had been dating online for a year without ever meeting in person. Aaliyah eventually became suspicious of Alicia and her many excuses for why they couldn't meet.

When the Catfish team arrived in Bellflower, they found Aaliyah and her family living in a small, cramped apartment. It was clear that Aaliyah had been struggling with depression and anxiety, and her online relationship with Alicia was one of the only things that brought her happiness. Aaliyah's family was very supportive of her and wanted nothing more than to see her happy.

The Catfish team began their investigation and quickly discovered that Alicia's social media profiles were filled with inconsistencies and contradictions. She had also sent Aaliyah several catfishing red flags, such as refusing to video chat and frequently canceling plans to meet in person. Nev and Max knew they had to get to the bottom of Alicia's true identity.

After several twists and turns, the team finally made contact with the real Alicia, who turned out to be a 30-year-old mother of three from Texas. She had been using fake pictures of a younger, slimmer woman in order to attract teenage girls online. Alicia initially denied any wrongdoing, but eventually came clean and admitted to being addicted to the attention she received from younger girls.

In a dramatic confrontation, Aaliyah finally came face-to-face with the real Alicia and learned the truth about her online girlfriend's deception. Though heartbroken, Aaliyah was able to find closure and move on from the toxic relationship. The episode served as a cautionary tale about the dangers of online relationships and the importance of being honest and upfront with those we care about.
