In the second episode of Chopped Canada season 2 named "High Steaks," four chefs from across the country compete to create an exceptional three-course meal using unconventional ingredients. The contestants are challenged to prepare appetizers, entrees, and desserts using ingredients they may not have experience with including a rum-infused ingredient, a common snack food, and a mystery fruit.
The competitors have just 20 minutes to create their first dish using the rum-infused ingredient, which proves to be a difficult task for some of the chefs. The judges take into account the taste, presentation, and creativity of the appetizers when scoring and eliminating one chef from the competition.
Next up is the entree round where the remaining three chefs must use the common snack food as the main ingredient. The chefs must demonstrate their culinary skills and use their techniques to make the snack food the star of the dish. They must also incorporate one mandatory mystery fruit into their cooking. One contestant is eliminated from the competition by the judges after the entree round.
In the dessert round, the two remaining chefs must create a delectable dessert from a unique basket of ingredients that includes peanut butter and jalapenos. The chefs must once again show their creativity and skills in a tight time frame of 30 minutes.
As always, the judges are looking for exceptional taste, presentation, and technique as they score each dish. The winner of the competition takes home a $10,000 prize and the coveted Chopped Canada title.
There are also behind-the-scenes interviews with each of the contestants where they discuss their careers, cooking background, and strategies for success in the competition. These interviews add depth and insight into the personalities and motivations of the chefs, making the show a fun and compelling watch for foodies and cooking enthusiasts.
