Ep 1. Maquis

In the season 3 premiere of Colony, entitled "Maquis," we're immediately thrown back into the world of the occupied blocs of Los Angeles, which last season became even more dangerous when the host of the Raps arrived on Earth to take over the minds and bodies of certain humans.

The premiere kicks off six months after the events of the season 2 finale, which saw Will Bowman (Josh Holloway) capture and kill Snyder (Peter Jacobson) in order to rescue his son Charlie. Now, the family is holed up in a cabin in the woods, along with Broussard (Tory Kittles) and other members of the Resistance. They've cut themselves off from the outside world in order to avoid being captured by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), who are hunting down anyone even remotely affiliated with the Resistance.

For Will and Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies), their decision to go into hiding has already taken its toll. Charlie (Jacob Buster) is a shadow of his former self, barely speaking and having nightmares about what he went through while held prisoner by the Raps. Will's attempts to reach out to his son are met with silence, and it's clear that he's at a loss as to how to help him.

Meanwhile, Katie is struggling with her own demons, as she grapples with the fact that she helped her sister Maddie's (Amanda Righetti) husband Nolan (Adrian Pasdar) become the new Proxy Governor of Los Angeles. While Maddie appears to be thriving as the Governor's wife, Katie's guilt over her role in helping Nolan gain power is eating away at her.

Soon, the group receives a visit from two Resistance fighters from the Seattle bloc, who have come to ask Broussard for help. Their leader is missing, and they believe she may have been captured by the IB. Broussard initially refuses, not wanting to put his people in danger by leaving their hideout, but soon changes his mind when the group offers to help him find a way to contact the Raps.

They set out on a mission to rescue the missing Resistance leader, but soon discover that they're not the only ones on her trail. It turns out that the Maquis, a group of French Resistance fighters, have also been tracking her, and the two groups are forced to team up in order to find her before the IB does. Along the way, we learn more about the Maquis and their motivations, and get a glimpse of what life is like in other occupied blocs.

As the episode comes to a close, we see Will, Katie, and the rest of the group headed back to their cabin, but it's clear that things are far from resolved. The IB is still hot on their trail, and there are hints that the Raps may have left some surprises behind on Earth that could change everything.

Overall, "Maquis" is a thrilling start to the season, full of action, intrigue, and a healthy dose of sci-fi mystery. As always, the performances from the cast are top-notch, and the show continues to excel at creating a fully-realized world that feels both familiar and alien at the same time. Fans of the series won't be disappointed, and new viewers will find plenty to enjoy as well.
