Ep 9. Some I Love Who Are Dead

David Makes Man is a drama series that follows the life of a 14-year-old African-American boy named David as he navigates through poverty, drugs, and violence in his Miami neighborhood. In episode 9 titled "Some I Love Who Are Dead", David's life continues to spiral out of control after the tragic death of Tio Teo, the neighborhood drug dealer and close friend of David's mother, Gloria.

As the episode begins, David is consumed with guilt over his role in Teo's death. As the episode progresses, David is forced to confront the harsh realities of his life. He is reminded of the violence that plagues his community when he witnesses the aftermath of a brutal shooting. Additionally, he is faced with the consequences of his actions when he is threatened by Teo's rival gang.

In an attempt to escape the turmoil of his home life, David seeks refuge with his former mentor, Dr. Woods-Trap. However, their relationship is strained when Dr. Woods-Trap reveals that she may have to leave the community for a job opportunity. Feeling abandoned once again, David lashes out and accuses her of only caring about her own success.

Despite the despair and hopelessness that permeates throughout the episode, there are moments of tenderness and love. David's relationship with his mother is especially poignant as they both struggle to cope with their grief. In a heartbreaking scene, Gloria reaches out to David for comfort, admitting that she feels lost without Teo. David, in turn, promises to be there for her and to never let her down.

In "Some I Love Who Are Dead", David's world is shattered by death and loss. However, amidst all the chaos, there are glimpses of hope and resilience.
