Dirty Sexy Money is a television drama series that aired on ABC from 2007 to 2009. It tells the story of the wealthy, powerful, and dysfunctional Darling family, who are constantly embroiled in scandal and controversy. The show explores themes of power, corruption, betrayal, and family, with a deliciously dark twist.
The first episode of the series, entitled "Pilot", sets the stage for a wild ride that promises to captivate audiences with its juicy plot twists. The episode opens with Nick George (played by Peter Krause), a lawyer working for a non-profit organization, being summoned to meet with Tripp Darling (played by Donald Sutherland), patriarch of the Darling family and one of the most powerful men in New York City.
It turns out that Nick was the personal lawyer for Tripp's late father, and Tripp has a proposition for him. He wants Nick to serve as the family's personal lawyer and fixer, handling all of their legal affairs and keeping their dirty secrets hidden from the public eye. In exchange, Tripp promises to donate a large sum of money to Nick's organization.
Nick is hesitant, knowing that working for the Darlings is sure to be a morally compromising position. But the lure of the money is too strong, and he eventually agrees. We are then introduced to the rest of the Darling family, a cast of characters that are equal parts fascinating and terrifying.
There's Patrick (played by William Baldwin), the eldest son who has a penchant for hookers and blow. There's Karen (played by Natalie Zea), the hard-drinking daughter who is secretly in love with Nick. There's Brian (played by Glenn Fitzgerald), the rebellious son who is constantly butting heads with his father. And there's Juliet (played by Samaire Armstrong), the youngest daughter who has a wild streak and a penchant for trouble.
As Nick gets to work for the Darlings, he quickly realizes that they have more skeletons in their closet than he ever could have imagined. His first case involves helping Karen cover up a hit-and-run accident she was in while drunk, which leads to a tense confrontation with the victim's family. He also begins to suspect that Tripp may have had something to do with the mysterious death of his own father.
Throughout the episode, we see Nick struggling with the moral implications of his new job. He is constantly confronted with the Darlings' unethical and immoral behavior, and begins to question whether he can continue to work for them with a clear conscience. But despite his misgivings, he also finds himself drawn in by the family's wealth and power.
Overall, the first episode of Dirty Sexy Money sets up a thrilling and complex narrative that promises to explore the darker side of the American dream. The cast is excellent, with standout performances from Krause, Sutherland, and Baldwin. The writing is sharp and suspenseful, with plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers engaged. If you're a fan of shows like Succession or Dynasty, you'll definitely want to give Dirty Sexy Money a watch.
