The Doctor and Ace arrive in 1963 London, just outside Coal Hill School, where the Doctor's previous incarnations had landed before in his first incarnation. The Doctor mentions that he had a granddaughter who attended the school, and decides to check if she left anything behind. He gives Ace a device that looks like a walkie-talkie and tells her to stay put while he goes inside. Ace then meets Group Captain Gilmore and his men, who are investigating strange incidents in the area. They spot a woman getting out of a hearse, carrying a large canister with a glowing blue light emitting from it. The woman is followed by two policemen, but they are killed by a flying saucer that appears from the sky.

The Doctor meets Rachel Jensen, a teacher at Coal Hill School, and they discuss the history of the school and the area. They then go to the school's junkyard, where the Doctor tells Ace to open the device he gave her. Inside is a complex device that operates a time tunnel, leading to an alternate dimension where the Daleks reside. The Doctor prepares to use this device to lure the Daleks to 1963 London and formulate a plan to defeat them once and for all.

Meanwhile, Group Captain Gilmore and his men find out that the woman from before is a scientific advisor to the Prime Minister, and they plan to follow her to find out more about the saucer. They discover that the saucer is a Dalek ship and that the advisors were trying to secure a powerful weapon that could potentially end the Dalek threat.

The Doctor and Ace continue to track the weapon, but they soon become split up. Ace is captured by a Dalek, who tells her about their plan to create a new Dalek Empire and to destroy humanity. The Doctor manages to locate the weapon and attempts to disrupt it, but he soon realizes that it's a trap and he's surrounded by Daleks. However, the Doctor has a trick up his sleeve and uses the device he gave Ace to bring in reinforcements from the alternate dimension. The reinforcements arrive just in time and the Doctor and his allies are able to defeat the Daleks.

In the aftermath, the Doctor and Ace say their goodbyes to Group Captain Gilmore and his men. The Doctor reveals that his true mission was to destroy the Hand of Omega, a powerful Time Lord artifact that could be used as a weapon. He succeeds in destroying it and talks with Ace about the importance of the Time Lords and the dangers of using powerful weapons. As they leave London, the Doctor and Ace share a touching moment about their friendship and the journey they have been on together.
