An alien spaceship descends to Earth, time jumping a few seconds into the future to avoid a missile fired at it. The craft contains the Axons, a race of beautiful golden humanoids who offer a remarkable energy source called Axonite. The Doctor and Jo become suspicious, however, and discover that Axonite, the Axons and their ship are all a single organism.
