The Doctor and his companion Jo Grant are back on the planet Uxarieus, where they previously helped to defeat a warlord trying to conquer the native people. This time, they are investigating a distress signal from a colony of humans sent to the planet to mine for much-needed resources. However, they soon discover that the colony is in danger from an unknown threat, and tensions between the humans and native species are at an all-time high.

As the Doctor tries to uncover the source of the danger, he must navigate treacherous political alliances and uncover long-hidden secrets. Meanwhile, Jo befriends a young native alien girl and discovers that not everything is as it seems with the two rival species. As the situation grows increasingly dire, the Doctor and Jo must race to find a solution before it's too late.
